The Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking to appoint a new member of academic staff at the level of Associate Professor.

Brief Description: The Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking to appoint new member of academic staff at the level of Associate Professor.

This is a permanent position at the rank of Associate Professor. The department would especially value applications from researchers with expertise in gender studies, sexuality feminist theory and politics. However, candidates with strong expertise in any aspect of political studies will receive serious consideration.

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to immediately integrate into the Department’s lifeworld through teaching large and diverse classes in all years of study, cooperating with colleagues in advancing the objectives of the Department, and contributing actively to the intellectual and administrative life of the Department and University. As this is a senior appointment candidates should possess a PhD and have significant experience with university teaching, supervision of post-graduate students, an established publication record, funding, and administration.

The Department is committed to making appointments that will contribute to demographic representativeness amongst academic staff, so we are particularly keen to attract candidates who are currently under-represented in the department. Therefore, special preference will be given to female, black South African candidates.

Remuneration: A competitive salary with excellent benefits will be offered depending on qualifications and experience.
