Simon M. Weldehaimanot is a national of Eritrea who resides in the United States. He has LLB degree in Law (2003, University of Asmara, Eritrea) and LLM in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa (2006, University of Pretoria, South Africa). At present Simon is a JSD candidate at the University of Notre Dame’s Law School in Indiana, USA. His doctoral dissertation takes international human rights law as a body of imputable principles in designing constitutions for plural and conflicting societies. His focus being how the right of self-determination and the will of the people as a source of authority, the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples should be translated in designing constitutions of states, his expertise ranges from international human rights law to constitutional law and democracy. He has published on the African Human Rights Law Journal; Journal of African Law; The University of Peace Law Review; Journal of African and International Law and the Eritrean Law Society Occasional Papers. In addition Simon is a human rights and political activist who actively participates in the activities of several Eritrean civil society organizations. In this capacity Simon has contributed several research and conference papers.
