Title:
Mr
Full Name:
Langton Miriyoga
About:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Cape Town's Law Faculty with a MPhil Social Justice. I developed a keen interest in the right to access to information when I took a human rights law course taught by Professor Richard Calland He also offered supervision when I wrote my thesis on the 'The Right to Information as a Tool for Advancing Socio Economic Justice'. Since then, I have developed an interest on how the the right to information can be used as 'leverage' by the impoverished and marginalised citizens in various African countries including Zimbabwe. For instance, I lament the state of the law and practice of access to information regime in Zimbabwe every single day, and I am convinced that I can make a difference. As a result, I have decided to consider opportunities for doing PhD level research on the usage of Access to Information Law in Zimbabwe as a tool for social accountability. I have also decided to look for platforms on which I can work as an agent of change in pursuit of openness and open governance in Zimbabwe and other Africa countries. The African Network of Constitutional Lawyers is one such opportunity. Currently, I am working with a NGO fighting for the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and documented and undocumented immigrants. I am a Project Coordinator and Head Paralegal Office. We are fighting against the the South African government on problems related to lack of accountability, corruption, refugee and immigration law and policy, and its implementation.
