The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Private Law. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in (research) Private Law, with special research interests in family law, customary law and property law in a South African, African and international context, are encouraged to apply.

To celebrate the scholarship of Prof Charles Fombad, the Centre for Human Rights, and the NRF Chair in International Constitutionalism, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, and the Faculty of Law, University of the Free State, plan to co-host a conference and co-edit a publication (conference proceedings/volume of essays) to celebrate and reflect on Professor Charles Fombad’s ongoing scholarship.
Regionalism has long been an integral part of African governance. Upon gaining independence in the era of decolonization, African states immediately set about creatingnumerous regional and sub-regional institutions to realize their interests. These regional institutions have since expanded their portfolios to provide governance in areas such as peace and security, economic development, the environment, health, and humanitarian affairs. Examples range from well-known organizations such as the African Union (AU) or the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lesser known ones such as the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) or the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR). Scholars and policy-makers are paying greater attention to African regional institutions and have high expectations of them.
Iso Lomso Fellowships provide an exceptional early career opportunity for Africa’s brightest minds in academia. The programme is aimed at African scholars who have obtained a doctoral degree within the preceding seven years and who hold an academic position at a university or research institution anywhere in Africa. Candidates should have established a research programme and have completed a post-doctoral fellowship or equivalent post-PhD programme. All disciplines are considered.
